Believing (Part 4)

Hebrews 11:1,2,6 (NIV)
1. Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. 2. This is what the ancients were commended for.
6. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

2 Corinthians 4:13 (NIV)
It is written: "I believed; therefore I have spoken." With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak

First of all, faith is being certain of what we do not see. Secondly, without this kind of faith it is impossible to please God!! Thirdly, faith requires WORDS and ACTIONS! That means it is impossible to please God without speaking and acting in faith!

I've heard people ridicule believers because they speak in line with the Word of God when circumstances don't seem to be lining up. But it's the people who speak like that-- ridiculed or not-- who are pleasing God!

Countless times since I've grabbed hold of God's message of faith, I have been asked how I "felt", and answered with what the Bible says instead of what my senses told me was true. That's because your senses only tell you what the current circumstances are, NOT necessarily what is true!

2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

If we are truly "fixing our eyes" on what is ETERNAL, that means we are fixing our eyes on what is UNSEEN!! That may sound strange, but the "fixing our eyes" in this verse is talking about our SPIRITUAL eyes, not our physical eyes! We know this because we cannot fix our physical eyes on something that is UNSEEN!!

When the Word of God says something as fact, it is a spiritual fact whether it looks like it is true in the physical realm or not! That is what the ancients were commended for: believing what God said in spite of contradictory circumstances. The way they SHOWED that spiritual vision was by their actions and words!

PRAYER
Thank You Father for Your life-giving Word. Thank You for sending Jesus Christ to save me by His work at the cross. Help me to remember the importance of keeping my focus on the spiritual Truths in Your Word.
In Jesus' Name, Amen.
