Jeremiah 1:4-8 (NIV)
4. The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 5. "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." 6. "Ah, Sovereign LORD," I said, "I do not know how to speak; I am only a child."
7. But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, `I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the LORD.
These verses cover all the main parts of our walk with God. First, in verse 5, God tells Jeremiah that BEFORE HE WAS BORN, He knew him and set him apart! We've talked in past Daily Words about how God does not show favoritism, so that means God knows US ALL before we are born, and sets us ALL apart for whatever our ministry is! It is only up to us to find out what that ministry is, and fulfill it!
In verse 6, Jeremiah states his weakness, and how he is unable to carry out the ministry God tells him is his. Then in verses 7 and 8, God tells Jeremiah not to SAY that about himself, and tells him to just DO what He says to do. God tells Jeremiah not to be afraid, because He is with him and will rescue him!
We often see ourselves as being unable to carry out the ministry God puts before us, but in God's eyes it is not a matter of how young (or old) we are, what our weaknesses are, or whether or not we are afraid! If we will simply DO what He tells us, God will be with us in those works, and will rescue us from any danger!
That speaks to our entire lives as believers! We can trust our abilities and our safety to God if we will just follow the path He has set before us, and not be afraid!!
PRAYER
Thank You Father for Your life-giving Word. Thank You for seeing me as being able to do what You have called me to do. Help me to not be afraid, but to simply obey You, expecting You to save me out of every danger.
In Jesus' Name, Amen.
