2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NIV)
16. Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
Outwardly, our bodies are aging and "wasting away", but on the inside we are being renewed day by day! The human spirit is eternal, so it will not waste away like the mortal body does; but the human spirit is unseen. We only see the outward decay of our physical bodies when we look at "what is seen" instead of what is unseen (and eternal).
God is "unseen" to us right now, but we have His Word to tell us the promises that are ours and the blessings He has purchased for us through Jesus. Those blessings are eternal, and are ours; not based on what we see with our eyes, but on what God said! Therefore we can confidently say that we have a home in Heaven and blessings on earth!
Looking at the temporary often causes discouragement; but remembering what we have in the unseen spiritual realm will always be encouraging! Let's keep our spiritual eyes fixed on what is UNSEEN; the ETERNAL things!
PRAYER
Thank You Father for Your Word. Help me to always remember the great hope I have and keep my eyes fixed on You and the eternal promises of Your Word.
In Jesus' Name, Amen.
