2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Yesterday we looked at how standing on God's Word *IS* fixing our spiritual eyes on what is unseen. Now lets take a step backward and let the Bible prove that we DO have spiritual eyes:

Luke 16:19-31 (NIV) (Jesus speaking)
19. "There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21. and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22. "The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24. So he called to him, `Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.'
25. "But Abraham replied, `Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.'
27. "He answered, `Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house, 28. for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.'
29. "Abraham replied, `They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.' 30. "`No, father Abraham,' he said, `but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.' 31. "He said to him, `If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.'"

These verses tell us that even though the rich man was dead, and his body was buried (verse 22), he could still SEE!!!
So what eyes was he seeing with??? He clearly SAW (in verse 23) Abraham with Lazarus at his side!! His body was buried in the ground and decaying, so he couldn't have been seeing with his PHYSICAL eyes!!

Yes, our spirit beings have the same parts as our physical beings. The rich man recognized Lazarus, and asked Abraham if he could send Lazarus to dip his FINGER in some water and cool his TONGUE!!! That means Lazarus had a finger, and it means the rich man had a tongue!!

Notice also that the rich man's spiritual tongue was HOT!! And he knew it could be COOLED by some water!! That means our spiritual bodies can feel heat and cold as well!! It also gives us some insight into James 3:6 !!

James 3:6 (NIV)
6. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

Notice that the "tongue" James is talking about is the spiritual tongue, since the physical tongue doesn't get set on fire by hell). Yet it is apparent that the physical tongue ACTS according to the spiritual tongue!! It can corrupt the WHOLE PERSON!!

If you never believed your words were important, you should now!!!

PRAYER
Thank You Father for Your wonderful, life-giving Word. Help me to always remember that You wrote it for my sake, so I can read it and study it as my personal letter from You.
In Jesus' Name, Amen.
