Psalm 23

(Written September 28, 1984)
Recorded in 1990 (From the album "My Horn Is Lifted High")

This is another song off my third album ("My Horn Is Lifted High") from 1990. It's another one of the songs recorded with my band at the time: "The Mud Sharks"; a power trio with me on vocals and guitar, Matt Mejia on bass, and Aaron Mejia on drums.

Aaron hadn't even heard this song yet when he went into the studio with Matt and I to record the drum part. He came up with the drum part miraculously fast. What an amazing drummer. I had my friend Mark Abernethy come in and record the guitar solos on this song and also on "King Of Righteousness", and he did an amazing job. (Thanks again Mark!)

Once again, as I stated on my last entry, this was definitely my "sloppiest" album, simply because I didn't have as much time to put into it, but a few of the songs turned out fairly well. This was one of them.

The lyrics are quotes and paraphrases from Psalm 23, which is one of my favorite psalms. I love it because it applies to us today. It's a great faith confession: "Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life!!"

Psalm 23 (Written September 28, 1984)

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not be in need
He leads me by still waters and through meadows green
He restores my soul; He leads me in the right path
Even in the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil

You are always at my side with Your rod and Your staff to protect me

You prepare me a table in the presence of my enemies
You anoint my head with oil and my cup overflows
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life
And I will dwell in the house of The Lord forever
