Great And Mighty Army

(Written August 19, 1989)
Recorded in 2003 (From the album "Unrecognized")

This is another song off my sixth album, from 2003: "Unrecognized". Once again, Randy Cieszynski (drums) and Craig Raffaelli (keyboards) both played on this one, and each added a lot.

This song is a quote directly from Joel chapter 2, where the prophet is describing the great army of God on the Day Of The Lord. It's another song I wrote back in the 1980s and never recorded until this album.

As I've pointed out many times before, these verses are not talking about the rapture, but the "Day Of The Lord", when the antichrist and the false prophet are defeated, and satan is thrown into the abyss for a thousand years.

Lyrics:

Great And Mighty Army (Joel 2, Put to music on August 19, 1989)

Like dawn spreading across the mountains, a great and mighty army comes
Such as never was of old, nor ever will be in ages to come
Before them fire devours, behind them a flame blazes
Before them the land is like the garden of Eden
Behind them a desert waste; nothing escapes them

At the sight of them the nations are in anguish; every face turns pale
They charge like warriors; they scale walls like soldiers
They all march in line; not swerving from their course
They do not jostle eachother; each marches straight ahead

They plunge through defenses without breaking ranks
Before them the earth shakes, the sky trembles
The sun and moon are darkened and the stars no longer shine

The Lord thunders at the head of His army; His forces are beyond number
And mighty are those who obey His command
The Day of the Lord is great; it is dreadful; who can endure it?

Like dawn spreading across the mountains, a great and mighty army comes
Such as never was of old, nor ever will be in ages to come
